Zoo Animal Crackers
The object of this project was to take the original Zoo Animal Cracker packaging and redesign and update it. The only aspect that was mandatory in designing the packaging was having a clear opening so that the consumer can see the crackers inside.
After long consideration I decided that I wanted to have a more realistic looking animal on the front. I searched through various images of safari animals and came upon lionesses lying in trees. That is how I decided to make the clear part of the package a tree and have a lioness lying on it.
I chose to keep the rest of the packaging somewhat simple so that it didn't take away from the lioness on the front. The background consists of various animal silhouettes and the typography is kept simple and works well with the lioness that it is surrounding.

White Layer
The substrate that the packaging is printed on is a clear film. Because of this I had to create a white layer that would be printed down behind the color and design so that the top layer would be solid instead of see through.
In the images to the left the top image is what would be sent to the printer and the bottom image is the top image but with the white layer at 60% opacity.
Without White
The image to the right is what the packaging looks like without the white layer on on top. This is what the packaging will look like once it is printed.
Package In Use
Here is a real life example of what the packaging looks like in use. I took this image in a photo lab and then I brought it into Photoshop and masked out the packaging and grass from the actual background. Then I found a stock image of wood and placed it underneath the masked layer.
